Question 1

What kinds of hardwood flooring do you carry?

Accepted Answer

Prestige Flooring carries both solid and engineered hardwood in a range of species, plank widths, and tones, from pale Scandinavian-style oak to deep walnut. Large sample displays at our Airport Way showroom make it easy to compare them side by side, and we can also bring samples to your home during a free in-home estimate.

Question 2

Which wood species can I choose from?

Accepted Answer

Oak is the most requested, followed by maple, hickory, and walnut. Each has its own grain and hardness, so we walk through how it will look and wear in your space before you commit.

Question 3

Can I see samples before I decide?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Stop by the showroom to look at full-size displays, or book a free in-home estimate and we will hold samples against your walls, trim, and natural light. Pacific Northwest light is soft and often gray, and it changes how a stain reads, so seeing it in the room matters.

Question 4

Should I pick solid or engineered hardwood?

Accepted Answer

Both are real wood. Solid hardwood is milled from a single piece and suits homes with a stable, dry wood subfloor. Engineered hardwood has a real wood top layer over a layered core, which handles Oregon's damp winters and dry summers with less movement, and it can go over concrete slabs. We will recommend one after looking at your subfloor.

Question 5

What does the subfloor need to look like?

Accepted Answer

Flat, dry, and solid. Many Portland-area homes from the early to mid 1900s sit on crawlspaces, and newer builds often have concrete slabs, so we check moisture and flatness during the estimate and tell you plainly if any prep is needed first.

Question 6

How much does hardwood cost installed?

Accepted Answer

In the Portland and Vancouver area, installed hardwood typically runs about $9 to $16 per square foot, depending on species, width, and the condition of the subfloor. Because we import materials directly, we can often offer better pricing and stock. Your written estimate is free.

Question 7

How long does installation take?

Accepted Answer

A typical room or two is often finished in a day or two. Whole-house projects take longer. We give you a timeline at the estimate, and the crew cleans up when they are done.

Question 8

How should I care for my hardwood floors?

Accepted Answer

Sweep or vacuum with a soft-floor setting, wipe spills quickly, and use a cleaner made for wood. Felt pads under furniture and a mat at the door help with the rain and grit that come in during our wet months.

Question 9

Can you remove my old flooring first?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We handle removal and disposal of the old floor as part of the job, so you do not have to rent a dumpster or haul anything away. See our [floor demolition and prep](/floor-demolition-prep) page for more.

Question 10

Can I use different flooring in different rooms?

Accepted Answer

Of course. Many customers pair hardwood in living areas with [tile](/tile-flooring) in bathrooms or [luxury vinyl](/luxury-vinyl-plank) in basements and laundry rooms. We help you choose transitions that look clean.

Question 11

Do you do hardwood stairs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We install treads and risers for staircases; see our [hardwood stairs](/hardwood-stairs) page for the details.

Question 12

Why do so many Portland homeowners choose luxury vinyl plank?

Accepted Answer

It handles moisture, it is comfortable underfoot, and it looks like wood. With our wet winters, basements, mudrooms, and kitchens are common places for it. It is also one of the more budget-friendly ways to get a wood look.

Question 13

What vinyl styles does Prestige Flooring offer?

Accepted Answer

We carry [luxury vinyl plank](/luxury-vinyl-plank) in a variety of wood looks, plus [vinyl floor tiles](/vinyl-floor-tiles) and [sheet vinyl](/sheet-vinyl-flooring). Stop in to see them on display at the showroom.

Question 14

Is luxury vinyl really waterproof?

Accepted Answer

The planks themselves are water-resistant to waterproof, depending on the product. Water that gets underneath at the seams or edges can still be a problem, so installation quality and subfloor prep matter just as much as the product.

Question 15

How much does vinyl plank cost installed?

Accepted Answer

Installed luxury vinyl typically runs about $5 to $10 per square foot in our area, depending on thickness, wear layer, and prep. We put the full number in writing at your free estimate.

Question 16

Can vinyl go over my existing floor?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes. If the existing floor is flat, solid, and dry, it can work. If not, we remove it and fix the subfloor first. We will tell you which applies after we measure.

Question 17

How long does installation take?

Accepted Answer

Most rooms take a day. Larger homes may take a few days, especially when old flooring has to come out first.

Question 18

How do I keep it clean?

Accepted Answer

Sweep or vacuum regularly and mop with a gentle cleaner made for vinyl. Skip steam mops and abrasive pads, which can dull the surface.

Question 19

Is vinyl good with dogs and kids?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A thicker wear layer resists scratches from claws and toys, and it is forgiving when the rain-soaked dog comes in from a walk. We can point you to the sturdiest options on display.

Question 20

Can vinyl be used on stairs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. See our [vinyl stairs](/vinyl-flooring-stairs) page for how we handle treads and nosing.

Question 21

Do you offer financing for vinyl?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we offer 0% financing for up to 12 months on approved credit. More on our [financing](/financing) page.

Question 22

Why would I choose laminate?

Accepted Answer

Laminate offers a wood or tile look at a budget-friendly price. It is a sensible fit for bedrooms, offices, and rental units where you want a clean result without a big budget.

Question 23

What laminate styles can I see at the showroom?

Accepted Answer

We carry a range of wood-look planks in light, medium, and dark tones, plus wider formats. Come by our Airport Way showroom to compare samples, or ask for them at your in-home estimate.

Question 24

How much does laminate cost installed?

Accepted Answer

Expect about $4 to $8 per square foot installed in the Portland area, depending on the product and what the subfloor needs. Your estimate is free and written.

Question 25

Is laminate okay in kitchens and bathrooms?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the product. Standard laminate does not like standing water, so we usually steer wet rooms toward [luxury vinyl](/luxury-vinyl-plank) or [tile](/tile-flooring) and keep laminate for drier spaces. Water-resistant laminate lines exist, and we will explain the limits.

Question 26

How long does it take to install?

Accepted Answer

Most rooms are done in a day. Click-together planks float over an underlayment, so there is little drying time.

Question 27

What about the underlayment?

Accepted Answer

We use the underlayment each product calls for, with a moisture barrier over concrete slabs. This matters in damp Oregon basements.

Question 28

Do you remove the old floor?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Removal and disposal are part of our service. See [floor demolition and prep](/floor-demolition-prep).

Question 29

How do I clean laminate?

Accepted Answer

Dry dust mopping and a lightly damp microfiber mop with a laminate-safe cleaner. Wipe up spills quickly and avoid soaking the seams.

Question 30

Can laminate go on stairs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. See [laminate stairs](/laminate-stairs) for what the finished look includes.

Question 31

What types of tile do you offer?

Accepted Answer

We carry [porcelain tile](/porcelain-tile), [mosaic tile](/mosaic-tile), and [wall tile](/wall-tiles) in a range of sizes, finishes, and colors, including wood-look planks. See them in person at the showroom.

Question 32

Is tile a good choice for Oregon homes?

Accepted Answer

It is a strong choice for entryways, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens, where rain, wet boots, and splashes are routine. It does not swell or warp with humidity.

Question 33

How much does tile installation cost?

Accepted Answer

Tile typically runs about $10 to $20 per square foot installed in the Portland-Vancouver area, depending on tile size, pattern, and how much prep the surface needs. We give you a written number at the free estimate.

Question 34

How long will a tile job take?

Accepted Answer

A bathroom or entry is often a few days, once setting and grout time are counted. Larger areas take longer. We lay out the schedule up front.

Question 35

What prep does tile need?

Accepted Answer

A flat, rigid surface. Older Portland homes with flexible wood subfloors may need underlayment to keep grout from cracking, and we check this during the estimate.

Question 36

How do I pick a grout color?

Accepted Answer

A close match keeps the floor calm and seamless; a contrasting color highlights the pattern. We can hold samples together for you at the showroom.

Question 37

Will tile feel cold in winter?

Accepted Answer

It can. Many customers add radiant heating under bathroom floors, and rugs help in other rooms.

Question 38

How do I clean and care for tile?

Accepted Answer

Sweep, then mop with a neutral cleaner. Sealing grout helps it resist stains in wet rooms.

Question 39

Do you remove the old floor first?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we handle demolition and disposal as part of the project. See [floor demolition and prep](/floor-demolition-prep).

Question 40

Can tile go on walls too?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We install backsplash and shower [wall tile](/wall-tiles) as well as floors.

Question 41

Do you offer financing?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer 0% financing for up to 12 months on approved credit, so you can install your new floors now and spread out the payments. Visit our [financing](/financing) page for more.

Question 42

How does the 0% option work?

Accepted Answer

On approval, you pay your balance in installments over the promotional period of up to 12 months with no interest. Terms depend on the lender and your approval, and we walk you through them before you sign anything.

Question 43

How do I apply?

Accepted Answer

Ask at the showroom or during your free estimate, and we will point you to the quick application. You can also [contact us](/contact) with questions first.

Question 44

Does financing cover installation and removal?

Accepted Answer

Financing is applied to your project total, which can include materials, installation, and old-floor removal, subject to the lender's terms.

Question 45

Does applying cost anything?

Accepted Answer

There is no cost to ask about it. Details of the application, including any credit check, are explained by the lender when you apply.
